More cutbacks at the U affecting our front line

Have you ever had to call someone after hours here on campus at 612-625-0011 or 612-624-3357? Also if you are involved with Research in any way this will affect you.

The BSAC operators/technicians have asked AFSCME Local 3937 to inform the University of Minnesota community and customers of Facilities Management’s upcoming decision to possibly dissolve the Building System Automation Center (BSAC).

In a meeting on the 12th of December, Facilities Management shared its intent with the BSAC operators and the Union. Facilities Management stated that all alarms BSAC now receives will be transmitted electronically via email or text. This would include all freezers, refrigerators, walk-in coolers, RAR animal research and all other critical alarms. It is unclear where phone calls for after hours emergencies will be routed at this time.

The BSAC operators weren’t given much information and there are many questions that need to be answered. If you have any questions about WHO will be receiving the emails or texts for your Department, please call or email Mike Berthelsen Associated VP of Facilities Management, at (612) 626-1091, or Pam Wheelock Vice President, University Services at 612-624-3557 or President Kaler, at 612-626-1616.

Facilities Management requested another meeting mid-January to inform the Union and the BSAC operators of its final decision.
