Staff Forum at CMU 2/6/2015 @1:30

Let your voices be heard Forum 2/16/2015

A forum is scheduled for Friday, February 6 from 1:30 to 3:30 in the Mississippi Room at Coffman Union. We have a firm commitment from State Senator Patricia Torres Ray to attend, and we are reaching out to other legislators to attend as well.

Our basic message is that the U administration talks a great deal about climate and diversity, but they do little to show respect for, involve or improve conditions for the unionized front line staff at the U, who as a group, represent the greatest diversity of staff. We will also tie in the fact that the achievement gap (the graduation and educational success rates between white students and students of color) in Minnesota is one of the worst in the country, and because the greatest predictor of academic success is family income, therefore, economic advancement for our members is a critical issue for the broader community.

Some of the topics will include:

Stagnating Wages and increasing costs of benefits
Cuts to the regents scholarship
Parental Leave
Job security and serving multiple probations
Bullying
Background checks
The situation in Aramark
Denial of holiday time for non-Christians
Exploiting student workers

Attend if you can. This is a combined effort of AFSCME locals on campus and Teamsters 320. If you are interested in being a speaker or telling your story at the forum contact AFSCME Local 3937 at email AFSCME3937@gmail.com or AFSCME3800@gmail.com
